Race, Gender, and Representation in Hollywood
In 2015, #OscarsSoWhite began to shift the narrative related to race and representation in the films being nominated for the Oscars. Of course, this movement spread beyond just feature films and began to call out a lack of representation in all media fields--both in front of and behind the camera. This has led to some changes, including new stories being told and new voices being featured. One recent example of a show that featured a diverse set of voices on and off screen was the series Lovecraft Country on HBO. Set in the 1950s, it explored many issues related to race that transcend time.

In this webinar, we will have a conversation with JaNeika and JaSheika James where we discuss issues related to race, gender, and representation in Hollywood, and hear their perspectives of where things stand now--and the work still left to be done ahead. We will consider and examine Lovecraft Country in particular to see how it was able to lead a national conversation on race.
