The Uses and Implications of AI in the Media
Over the past few years, there has been an increased use of artificial intelligence in all facets of the media--from news organizations to advertising agencies. In fact, AI represents one of the newest frontiers in storytelling and customizing messages for different audiences, and it has many exciting and innovative uses and applications. However, with the rise of this technology, there are many implications on how media are using it and what this means for the media industry. Additionally, there are ethical considerations when using AI in different contexts that must be fully explored. In this roundtable conversation, Lenny Bronner, Senior Data Scientist for the Washington Post joins Drs. Amy Schmitz Weiss (JMS Journalism Faculty), Yang Feng (JMS Advertising Faculty), and Dr. Xiaobai Liu (Department of Computer Science) to explore and understand how AI is being used in media industries and where it may be going in the coming years.
