I am a rehabilitation counselor with DOR. I got into this field because I am passionate about those in my life with disabilities and wanted to help others experiencing similar

23:15
Sorry…I had to pull over, I am driving.

24:10
Working at America's Job Centers in San diego county and seeing the work DOR did for their job seekers; my son has a learning disability and I wanted to learn more on how to better assist him to navigate his own disability. How I manage hard times, by taking some time off for self-care. I celebrate the good times with everyone and anyone who is willing to hear my good news!

25:07
I work as a Vocational Rehabilitation in Oregon. I got involved with this work because I no longer enjoyed working in the corporate industry and wanted to get involved in human services and wanted to help others. Seeing the positive outcomes in helping others and good leadership. I talk out the hard times at work.

26:35
What keeps me motivated the people I serve, the smiles on people’s faces when reaching their goals. Hard times…communicating with coworkers

28:31
What led me to this work?My motivation to help my son with his mental health issuesWhat keeps me motivated?Having a positive impact on my clients. Seeing their progress. How do I manage the hard times at work? Not well! I review what I'm experiencing and explore what I need to change or do differently. How do I celebrate the good times? My heart feels full. I celebrate with my clients by reviewing all the progress they are making.

28:45
The site of a homeless veteran at LAX in 2021 led me to vocational rehabilitation. I am inspired by the plight of our veterans having difficulty after their well-deserved service to ur country. Serving our veterans and other individuals with disabilities in their vocational rehabilitation needs is a ministry to me. Their success is my success. When I feet getting burnt out, I think abut their smiles when they report about how happy they are int heir jobs.

30:25
I’ve had my own personal experiences and challenges growing up. I did not feel like I had much support then and would like to be of service.-Knowing that I’ve managed other stressful things and have overcome them has helped me manage the hard times at work. I have a great supervisor who I check in with as well. Sometimes I need that support, especially after tough cases working as a behavioral health consultant. Having gratitude helps as well.-I celebrate by spending time with family.

34:51
The type of work I've done previously I include case manager for Tribal TANF program, CALWORKS, and Center manager for a one-stop career center.

36:03
Case management services for IDD Programs. My previous job and current job both involve inclusion for individuals with disabilities. I have learned the importance of listening to others and to trust the process as their participation in services takes time….meaning that it can take several months to a year for the clients to find meaningful work.

36:08
I owned a pet sitting company before grad school. I didn’t think they related at all, but I’ve realized that listening, being personable and reliable were all similar components from pet sitting to rehab counseling.

36:22
The biggest reason I left the corporate world as an HR Specialist was when I had to fire people. I was so bothered by it that I had nightmare about a dad I fired. Processing job application and conducing new hire on-boarding help me prepare my current consumers.

36:37
2 keeping up to date on resources, community based services makes what I do make sense. 3. 4 I have developed a better/biggrt view of the world around me

36:44
biggrt

36:53
bigger lol

37:46
My current job makes sense within the context of my previous jobs because all my jobs have been as skilled helper. I have grown as a professional with many struggles but many more motivational moments.

39:31
-I’ve worked at an inpatient psychiatric facility doing assessments for incoming patients and worked as an ERMHS therapist. Those experiences were quite different. They both helped me to provide individualized care, work with different populations/age ranges and work with families as well.

45:32
I continue to learn and develop my soft skills because I come across are serious or mad when I am not. When I joke and had a poker face, others think I am serious and other get offended.

46:50
Listening to everyone before interjecting an opinion that can help form a solution (or not) is key during crisis moments. Others need to be heard and often need processing of emotions before a solution can be presented. I learned during crisis meetings to reserve my opinions until all others have spoken and felt heard. Especially in colleague meetings this is crucial before speaking to a patient/client and family /caregivers .. Several times things resolved better by my waiting

47:01
We had a difficult client and a parent who were demanding certain services. I acquired the case and in meeting with them, the parent threaten to file a grievance if they did not get what they demanded. I was able to offer a listening approach and allowed them to vent and share their frustration. At the end of the meeting the parent apologized for coming off so abrupt and thanked me for offering a listening ear.

47:45
Crisis counseling training has helped many times in my current position. I help others calm down to discuss matters better

49:14
What helps for me is to provide limited self-disclosure about my personal experiences to help them relate to me

50:29
I also will use selective self disclosure to provide a sense of relatability to a student's situation. It tends to build rapport in my experience.

53:06
Sorry I have to go to another appointment. Thanks Marge!

54:31
Yes, previous slide, please

01:05:57
Agree about quiet time.

01:06:01
I try to keep myself grounded as much as possible. That could be something as simple as adding humor if appropriate, practicing mindfulness techniques or giving myself reminders that “we’re all human”. We all have our own issues that we’re dealing with. At the end of the day I can reflect on the positive things that I’ve done.
